Former Alaska resident Rev. Thurman F. Boswell, 92, died June 13, 1998, at the
Winnie L. Nursing Center in Cameron, Texas. A funeral was held June 15 at
Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, Texas, with the Rev. Ben Hubert
and Dr. Bill Boswell officiating. Burial was in the Milano Cemetery in Milano,
Texas.
The Rev. Boswell was born Feb. 27, 1906, in Cumby, Texas, to David Granville
Boswell and Ari Boswell. He attended school in Cumby and did undergraduate work
at Denton North Texas State Teachers College. He graduated from Brite College of
the Bible at Texas Christian University and received a master's degree in
theology. The Rev. Boswell served in the U.S. Army as chaplain in the medical
battalion and as chief of Chaplain School 4th Army. He was discharged as a
lieutenant colonel. He was married to Nellie Reeser on July 28, 1931, in Enid,
Okla. The Rev. Boswell built First Christian Church in Anchorage and was the
area minister in Washington D.C. He served as minister in many other locations.
He was a retired minister for Disciples of Christ. He was also a member of the
Masonic Lodge in Miami, Texas, and the American Legion in Cameron. Mr. Boswell
was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Boswell; five brothers; five sisters;
and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Bill Reeser Boswell of Pineville, La.; daughter,
Thurla Boswell Hubert of Milano; brothers, R.D. Boswell of Frisco, Texas; four
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Phillips and
Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
