John P. Rogel, 76, of Clarksburg, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Clarksburg, a son of the late George and Jennie Lee Prosnik Rogel.

Mr. Rogel was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Kent, where he was a cantor for many years, singing in the church choir and participating in various activities at the church.

In 1947, John graduated from the former Elders-Ridge High School. For 42 years, he served in the U.S. Air Force on active duty and in the reserve. He participated in the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1949 and then in the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 141 of Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Pollock Rogel, Clarksburg, whom he married Feb. 14, 1953; two daughters and a son: Karen Phillips and husband Rob, Aston; Paul, West Lebanon; and Jennifer Russell and husband Ed, Palm City, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters: Lena Stewart, Clarksburg; Annie Novalis, Pittsburgh; Jennie Shamonsky, Pittsburgh; Francie Wood, North Tonawanda, N.Y.; Rose Brown, Pittsburgh; and Helen Groetsch, Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Ann Rogel, in June 2005; three brothers, Charles, George and Bill; and a sister Mary.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Kent with the Rev. E. George Saletrik as celebrant.

Interment followed in Iselin Union Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Indiana VFW post 1989.
