Son of William T. and Margaret Crutchfield Winkle.
Preceded in death by his parents and first wife Nannie Hopson Winkle to whom he married on October 29, 1947 and the mother of his children and six sisters and four brothers.
He was a member of Third Baptist Church and a greeter for over thirty years. He was a retired bricklayer and spent his free time planting and watching his garden grow from the swing on his porch.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Wallace Winkle to whom he married on October 4, 1998.; three sons, Wayne Winkle and wife Vicki, Ronnie Winkle and wife Marcia, Donnie Winkle and wife Jamie; four granddaughters, Mandy and Tim Gushing, Megan and James Matlock, Laura and Wes Shook, and Shannon Winkle; sisters, JoAnn Warwick and husband Richard, Carol Dimler and Margie Raley. The blended family of Charles and Kathryn include Don and Aida Wallace, Pam and Leon Perry, Mike and Jan Wallace; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Regency Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Thomy Green officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. White, W.J. Brumley and Percy Sanders.
