William's B-29 was assigned to mission 51 along with 114 other B-29's that were dispatched to attack the Nakajima aircraft plant in Tokyo during the war.
William was "Killed In Action" when his B-29 was hit by Japanese anti-aircraft artillery while over the target area, and crashed in Japan during the war..
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
