Edmond Mills Perkins Dies
Edmond Mills Perkins, was born in the Rock Creek community in Franklin County on March 18, 1869. He was the son of Elijah and Sarah Elizabeth Perkins. He passed away at his home in Richmond March 3, 1955 at the age of 85 years. Mr. Perkins lived on a farm in the Berea community east of Richmond from 1881 until 1937 when he retired from active farm work and moved to Richmond. Mr. Perkins and Stella Belle Chandler were united in marriage June 9, 1903. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1948. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins were the parents of six children. Two daughters died at birth. A son, Dwight C. Perkins passed away Mr. 20, 1954. Surviving members of his immediate family are a daughter, Miss Blanche Perkins, Clay Center; a son, Lee Perkins and wife, Lucille of Richmond; another son, Walter and his wife, Anne of Lebo; a daughter in law, Ida Perkins, Richmond; four grandchildren, David, Roger, Karolyn and Keith Perkins and one brother, B. T. Perkins of Pittsburg.
Mr. Perkins was well known stockman and farmer. He devoted a greater part of his life to the cattle business although he had retired from active farmwork, he had retained a deep interest in farm operation. Mr. Perkins served his community in many ways as a member of the Methodist church, being on the board of trustees for 50 years, as a former president of the Franklin County Farm Bureau, as a director of the Peoples National Bank of Richmond and as a member of the board of education of the Richmond rural high school.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Community church Saturday afternoon. Rev. Paul Davis officiated. He was assisted by Rev. T. Neal Hiatt, Kansas City, Kans., and Rev. B.M. Dobbin. Mrs. Ernest T. Eisele, Kansas City, Kansas, was soloist. She was accompanied by Mrs. Jerry Mildfelt. Casket bearers were Clarence Gault, Abe Severns, Virgil Smith, Chester Wagner, R. S. Gault and Alfred Sigler. Interment was in the Richmond cemetery, under the direction of the Farris Funeral directors of Garnett.
