Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mt. Zion, Il. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Thursday evening at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Ralph was born on June 5, 1922 in Taylorville, Il, the son of James A. and Ada Mae (Scammahorn) Smith. He worked at the University of Illinois for several years and was a member of the Painter's Local #288. He was a WWII veteran serving with the 45th Infantry Division. He owned Fitzpatrick Apartment Building for thirty years and had rental properties until his retirement. He married Clara Macklin on July 22, 2946.
Surviving is his wife Clara; daughter Nancy Ashcraft and her husband David of Clinton; grandson Lee Walsh and his wife Julie of Ft. Meade, MD; sisters, Wanda Dilbeck, Beverly Nihiser and Lorna Wright all of Decatur, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jeanette, parents, one sister and five brothers.
