Later the mill burned and he moved to his farm one mile north, where he died in 1870. He was a charter member of Mt. Pulaski Lodge, No. 87, A. F. & A. M., also a charter member of Mt. Pulaski Chapter, No. 121, Royal Arch Masons.
He was a man of original thought and liberal views; an energetic public-spirited citizen,and just the man needed in developing a new country.
