L. D. Wittie, 63, of Dallas died Sunday in a Dallas hospital.
An engineer with the Texas Highway Department, he was a native and former resident of Coryell County.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Jack Hopkins officiated, and burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Wittie was born and reared in the old Springhill community in Coryell County.
He attended the schools at Springhill and Schley before graduating from high school in Gatesville.
He attended John Tarleton Junior College and graduated from Texas A&M in 1941.
He married Mildred Brown Aug. 27, 1938.
After serving four years as an officer in the U. S. Army during World War II, he joined Humble Oil Co. He was with Humble for 20 years before going to work for the Highway Department.
Mr. Wittie was a member of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Larry Wittie of Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Ann Kirchner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Peggy Sue Wittie of Abilene; two brothers, Kenneth Wittie of Abilene and Don Wittie of Snyder; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Faye Mosier of Bynum; and four grandchildren.
