Of Heart Attack
James Burton Newkirk, 69, of south of Homer, died at the Robert Long Hospital, Indianapolis, at 3:30 Monday afternoon following a heart attack suffered earlier. He had been seriously ill the past three weeks.
He was born in Jefferson [Jennings] County March 1, 1880, a son of James and Harriet Miller Newkirk. He had lived in Rush County since he was 17 years of age.
He married Nona E. Stout Feb. 15, 1908, who survives with three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Akers and Mrs. Nellie Wright, Rushville, and Mrs. Dorothy Nickel, Walker Township; two sons, James E. Newkirk, Homer and Verlin A. Newkirk, at home; a sister, Mrs. Delilah Gallimore, Rushville, and nine grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at the late residence Thursday at 2:30 p. m. by the Rev. W. B. Jenkins, followed by burial in Hurst Cemetery, near Homer. Friends may call at the late residence after noon Wednesday.
