August H Fennern, 72, retired farmer, died Monday evening, Feb. 21, 1972, at the Vinton hospital following a short illness. He suffered an apparent stroke Feb 9.

He was born Feb 18, 1900 at Avoca, a son of August R and Sophia M. Carstins Fennern, and married Josephine A. Pauley at Avoca on Jan. 1, 1925. He farmed in Shelby and Pottawattamie counties from 1925 until 1939 when they moved to the Vinton area. He raised purebred Shorthorn cattle until his retirement five years ago.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Audrey) Mayhew of Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. Warren (Lorene) Anderson of Vinton and Mrs. Lee (Marlene) Overton of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Carl Christensen of Avoca and Mrs. Howard Hoffman of San Diego, Calif.; four brothers, Erwin and Edward of Vinton, Harry of Garrison and Walter of Mt.

Auburn. He was preceded in death by one daughter and one sister.
