Sims B. Garrott Dead.
End of Former Houstonian Was a Sudden One.

The death of Sims B. Garrott occurred at Memphis, Texas, January 5. He was taken suddenly ill and died before his brother could reach his bedside.

Mr. Garrott was for many years a resident of Houston, having come to this State from Selma, Ala. For a number of years he was connected with the wholesale firm of William D. Cleveland & Sons as buyer. Later he went with Carson, Sewall & Co. and remained with them several years. For the past six or eight years he has made his home in Memphis, Texas, where he and his brother, T.R. Garrott, were in the mercantile business.

He was born in Marion, Ala., in 1854 and was the second son of Hon. L.W. Garrott, who was killed in the siege of Vicksburg. At an early age he was left an orphan with his mother and some younger brothers to care for and educate, and he assumed the responsibility and did his part. Although raised in luxury with a servant to answer his every call, yet when he saw that he had the care of a family on his young shoulders, he, like a noble Southern boy, accepted the responsibility without a murmur. Later in life it fell to his part to raise and educate five orphan children of his sister's, and with a like courage he did his part for them.

He is survived by two brothers, John F. Garrott of the firm of James Bute & Co., Houston, and T.R. Garrott of Memphis, Texas; also several nieces and nephews, among them being Mrs. H.Y. Howze of Houston, Mrs. H.L. Pattie of Fort Worth, A.F. Hinton, private secretary to Congressman Burleson, and Sims Hinton of Esterline [sic], Texas.

Mr. Garrott never married, but devoted his life to the loved ones left in his care by an all-wise Providence.
