THE LAMPASAS LEADER
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1901

George W. McVey died Tuesday afternoon at the residence of Mr. John Abshear in east Lampasas. His disease was dropsy, and his death was unexpected by the family. He died sitting in his chair, and was able almost to the time of his death to go around among his friends. He was raised in this section, and was married in November, 1897, to Miss Julia Abshear, of this place. For several years he was in the grocery business at Copperas Cove, until about a year ago fire destroyed all his goods, including most of his household effects. He then moved to northern Texas and has for some time been making his home about Itaska, in Hill county. He returned here a few days ago in feeble health, but able to walk about. Disease had a strong hold on him, however, and he passed away at the time stated. His remains were interred in the city cemetery Wednesday afternoon. His relatives and friends have universal sympathy.
