Son of Kate Koger & Cyrus Denney.

Wayne County Outlook
20 Sept 1962

Joseph Thomas Denney was born November 9, 1895, departed this life September 10, 1962. He was the son of the late Cyrus and Kate Koger Denney of Powersburg, Ky.

He was united in marriage November 13, 1921 to Bessie Jane Catron, daughter of the ate Loranzo and Martha Bertram Catron of Sunnybrook, Ky. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Edna Bertram and Mrs. Evelyn Dalton of Windy, Gilbert Denney and Mrs. Leta Hoover of Powersburg, Ky., two children died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Bessie Denney. Four children, ten grandchildren, two brothers: Obie Denney and Calvin Denney of Powersburg, Ky. Two sisters, Mrs. Dora Denney of Monticello, Ky., and Mrs. Ona Hill, New Castle, Ind., one half brother, Parker Denney and one half sister, Mrs. Cecil Roberts both of Indiana, and a host of other relatives and friends. His friends were numbered by the
large crowd that attended his funeral.

"Joe" as everyone called him, met everyone with a friendly smile, and it could be said of him, "He was a friend to all." He accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour several years ago, and left a beautiful testimony that he was ready to go.

A vacant place in life is void. A voice is stilled, A smile is gone.

But in the sacred stillness of every passing hour.

A cherished memory forever lingers and a new star beams forth from the firmaments of glory, to shatter rays of sunshine on his dear ones who may catch a gleam, that they too might reach out and take the hand that the Saviour reached to him.

All was done that loving hands could do, but God knew best and called him home.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Richardson. The active pallbearers were: Ola Brown, Hershel Edwards, Billy Hurt, Horace Denney, Marshal Denney, and Ernest Catron. His body was laid to rest in the Edwards Chapel Cemetery to await the resurrection.
Hoyt Hickey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
