Alice Catherine "Katie" Barnett, 87, Wabash, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor East. She was born July 21, 1921, in Wabash County to Charles H. and Alice H. (Carver) Dluzak. She first married Kenny Coburn on Dec. 4, 1945; he died Feb. 25, 1974. She second married Russell F. Barnett on March 12, 1977, and he survives.
She was a 1939 graduate of Chippewa High School. She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She was a teller at Frances Slocum Bank 17½ years. She enjoyed all sports and especially IU basketball.
She is also survived by two children, Dianne K. Scott and Ronald M. (Reta) Coburn, both of Wabash; brother, William (Rosalie) Dluzak, Wabash; sister, Martha Shoemaker, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Michele (Kurt) Landis, Schaumburg, Ill, Christina Scott, Warsaw, Dawn Light, Wabash, and Kenneth Coburn, Towson, Md.; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Coburn, Towson, Md., Kirsten Light, Kyler Light and Justin Scott, all of Wabash, and Ryan Scott, Warsaw; and stepson, Phillip L. (Judy) Barnett, Naperville, Ill. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene, Paul, Charles, Edmond and Joseph Dluzak, and a sister, Mary Ann Dluzak.
Funeral services will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave. A rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is St. Bernard Catholic Church.
