Pleasant View – Hazel Alice Anderson Greenwood Gunnarson, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left this life Saturday, December 26, 2009 after a long battle with diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. She was born April 15, 1917, the youngest daughter of Joseph Augustus and Viola Purdy Anderson in Five Points, Ogden, Utah. She was educated in Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1934. She also attended Weber College.

She married her high school sweetheart, Arden Rogers Greenwood, on March 24, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two sons, Arden Kent and Gary Arthur. Her husband, Arden died June 7, 1975. In May 1977 she married a childhood friend, David Gunnarson, in Provo. He died November 21, 2000.

She had been a bookkeeper for Arden's construction business. She was also employed by the IRS where she retired after twenty years of service.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught Sunday School and Primary. She was a counselor in the Ogden Stake Relief Society board where she wrote many lessons for the homebound and restricted Relief Society members. She had worked in the Ogden Temple and did Spanish extractions. She loved music and sang in ward and stake choirs for fifty-two years. Her home and her grandchildren were her hobbies. She loved caring for them.

She is survived by her two sons, A. Kent Greenwood (Lynne) and Gary A. Greenwood (Carol); eight grandchildren: Jeannie Kramer, Kristopher Greenwood, Stacee Nunez, Natalee Prince, Dixie Brenchley, Aimee Peterson, and Mike Greenwood; fourteen great-grandchildren: Noah, Hannah; Ashlyn, Colten, Savannah, Sophia and Baby Ava; Ethan and Kaleb; Chloe, Bennett, and Ana; Olivia and Thomas; plus many loyal friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Arthur, Clifford, and Floyd Anderson, and one sister, Thelma Shields.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call prior to the service from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Interment will be in the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
