Daughter of one of Buffalo's oldest
families, one which numbered
governors, judges, attorneys, physicians
and others prominent In
many walks of life among Its members,
Miss Catherine Clinton died
Thursday In her home after a brief
illness.
Funeral services will be held at
2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in
the home, 3 Inwood Pl., with Dr.
Charles A. Jessup, rector emeritus
of St. Paul's Cathedral, officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
Miss Clinton was a descendant of
Gov. DeWitt Clinton, "the father of
the Erie Canal," and of George
Clinton, the first governor of New
York State and the last governor
of New York as an English colony.
Her grandfather was George W.
Clinton, who was mayor of Buffalo
in 1842 and was later for
many years a judge of the Superior
Court. Judge Clinton had two sons,
Spencer and George Clinton Sr.
Spencer Clinton's children were Dr.
Marshal Clinton, Mrs. Thew
Wright, Mrs. Urquhart Wilcox, Mrs.
Nelson G. Russell, Spencer J. Clin*
ton of Chattanooga, Mrs. Traver
Smith of New York and the late
DeWitt Clinton. George Clinton
Sr. had a son and a daughter who
survive their sister—George Clinton
Jr. and Mrs. Chester D. Richmond
of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.
Miss Clinton was born in Hudson,
Wis., May 17, 1873, where her
parents lived for a brief period.
She was brought back to Buffalo
while an infant by her parents and
had lived in Buffalo since that time.
She was an active member of St.
Paul's Cathedral and was for several
years treasurer of the Buffalo
Auxiliary of the American McAll
Association, missionary organization.
