William Oncken Dies Suddenly At Home
Funeral services were held at Tadlock Chapel Monday morning for William Oncken, 72, prominent Gonzales Countain who passed away at his home at Monthalia, Saturday.
He was fatally stricken suddenly Saturday after returning from a visit to Gonzales during the day. He was secretary of the Hochheim Prairie Mutual Fire Insurance Co. and was well known throughout the county.
Interment was made at Weimar cemetery Monday afternoon. He was laid to rest beside his parents and his wife.
William Oncken was born in Germany in 1870, being 72 years, 2 months, and 15 days old at the time of his death. He came to Texas with his parents when he was nine years of age. They went first to Galveston and then settled at Weimar. Forty one years ago he moved to Monthalia where he had lived ever since as a highly esteemed, well beloved citizen. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
His life passed away in 1935. Surviving are four children, Edward Paul Oncken of Port Arthur, Mrs. R. E. Roberts of Port Arthur, Mrs. Gus Heinemann of Lockhart and Harry Oncken of Monwith whom he made his home.
He also leaves one brother, Gerhart Oncken of Weimar.
