Urho Emil Ahola, age 84, of Rudyard, Michigan passed away at War Memorial Hospital on March 29, 2005. He was born in Kinross, on August 20, 1920 to Valentine and Katrina (Tulpo) Ahola. Mr. Ahola served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an infantry Sergeant for the 67 TATC RCN GP. He received numerous decorations. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the Michigan United Conservation Club. Surviving Urho are his beloved wife: his son and his daughter; his sister Vieno Lyons of Sault Ste. Marie; Nelma Lampinen of Utica; 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Urho in death are eleven brothers and sisters; Aini Daniels, Julia VanHala, Marion Arps, Lillian Nelson, Jenny Hines, Walter Ahola, William Ahola, Arthur Ahola, Impi Cardona, and Evelyn Ogryski. Mr. Ahola married in Sault Ste. Marie on December 27, 1947. Urho and his wife resided through the years in the Sault, Flint, and Grand Blanc, later moving to Rudyard. He was a skilled carpenter, eventually retiring as Construction Superintendent for Sorensen and Gross Construction Company in Flint. He was happiest in his beloved U.P. where he hunted and fished extensively. Visitation will be held at Hovie Funeral Home on Thursday March 31, 2005 from 6-9 p.m., with military honors at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Hovie Funeral Home on Friday April 1, 2005 at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Kinross at a later date.
