'Pappy' Crone dies, retired police chief

Gilbert G. (Pappy) Crone, 67, Corydon, died Monday at Harrison County Hospital.
He had been the Corydon chief of police for several years until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the Green Mountain Boys. a professional music group that played several clubs in Southern Indiana and the Louisville area.
He was a veteran of World War II and member of Old Capitol Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivor's are his wife, the former Anna L. Strahl; two sons,. Joseph T. Crone, Indianapolis and Larry G. Crone, Ocean Springs. Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Cox, Leavenworth; nine grandchildren.
The body is at Gehlbach-Royse Funeral Home, Corydon. where funeral arrangements are pending. Other survivors include three brothers, Cecil Crone, Corydon. Carl B. Crone, Charlestown, and Archie Crone, New Salisbury; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Mae Backherms. Clarabelle Lasley, Mrs. Alliene Steiner. all of Corydon and Betty Mitchell. Louisville.
