Lawson married Etta Lamb on March 16, 1904 in Davis county, Iowa. He farmed in Adair and Schuyler counties until 1922 when he went to work for the county with the Road and Bridge crew. Until his retirement in 1953 he had been employed with the State Highway Department since 1933. He lived in Kirksville from 1926 until 1968 when he moved to Kansas City to be with his daughter.
