He was a life long resident of Decatur and was president of the Trail Riders association in 1950. He was a member of the Methodist church the Odd Fellows and the Modern Woodmen.
He was born Aug. 5, 1906, a son of John and Jesse Cooley, he married Isabell Black in Springfield on Aug. 16, 1930. He leaves his wife, his mother of Decatur, a son John Wesley Jr. and a daughter, Marjorie Ann, both at home a brother, Harold of Decatur and a half brother James V. Cooper of Decatur.
