An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, January 7, 1971:

Funeral services for Mrs. Inez Shepherd, Gatesville gardening enthusiast, were held at 2 p. m. Monday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Bob Richmond officiated, and burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Shepherd died at 11:45 a. m. Saturday in the local hospital. She was 68.
She was a longtime leader in the Gatesville Garden Club and was a perennial winner in the club's flower shows and exhibits, particularly in the field of floral arrangements.
Mrs. Shepherd was born in Coryell County Jan. 7, 1902, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Shirley.
She was reared in this county, and lived in Dallas from 1921 until 1933. She had resided in Gatesville the last 37 years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Her husband, M. H. Shepherd Sr., died in 1962.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by one son, Robert D. Warren of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Bunch of Duncanville, Mrs. Dora Cotten of Waco, Mrs. Ellie Davis of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Annie McCutchen of Gatesville; three brothers, Joel Shirley of Waco, Stonie Shirley of Port Arthur and Luther Shirley of Amarillo; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers far Mrs. Shepherd's funeral were Cecil Hodge, F. A. Shirley, Edward Brown, Eric McCutchen, Leroy McCutchen, Dan Cotten and Robert Cotten.
