Among Centralia pioneers buried in Washington Lawn Cemetery are members of the Cunningham family. Thos. E. Sr., was born in 1822 and died in 1888; Eliza J., 1873-1918; Jos. B., 1881-1951; Thos E. Jr., 1884-1920. The last named was chief of the Centralia fire department and lost his life while directing his men during a fire in the Hope block, the lower floor of which is now at the corner of West Main and Pearl streets.
