Born about 1825 in Ireland, Robert was a resident of Beckwith Township in Lanark County when he married Margaret Lawford in Feb 1851. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Lawford and Margaret Cameron.
By 1861 they lived in Drummond Township along the 2nd Concession Road (now County Road 10), about 3 km from the Lawford family farm in Beckwith Twp. where Margaret was born.
Ten years later, Robert owned a 100 acre mixed farm operation which is detailed in Schedule 4 of the 1871 census. Their farmhouse was full - they had a large family of seven girls and two boys, the eldest 18, and the youngest only 10 months. The Day farm in Drummond Township was on Lot 26, Concession 1, on the south side of County Road 10, just west of present-day Day Road, named after their family of course.
Robert passed away 10 Aug 1890 at Drummond Twp, probably at his farmhouse. He was buried in the McVean cemetery, west of Numogate where other members of the Lawford family are also interred.
