Son of James and Lydia French Fordyce. Born in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Moved west with parents to Lost Creek Township, Miami County, Pennsylvania around 1815. Married Margaret Susan Bull (d/o Richard Bull and Sarah Clark) on February 21, 1839 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. First settled at Piqua, Ohio after his marriage. Moved to Corwin township, Logan County, Illinois in 1841, then back east to Washington Township, Noble County, Indiana in 1847. Settled in Tippecanoe Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana in 1854. Retired from farming and moved to Pierceton, Indiana in 1868 where he died in 1872. Had a family of seven children, six of whom survived to adulthood.
