Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Oak Grove Methodist Church near Gibsland for Fred William Berg, 74, who died Sunday night at a Shreveport hospital following a heart attack at his home in Gibsland Sunday afternoon. Mr. Bert, who was a long time resident of the Oak Grove community, recently sustained a broken hip in a fall at his home, which had confined him to his bed for several weeks.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Berg; one sister, Mrs. Carolyn Franke of Galveston, Texas; and three brothers, Willaim Berg, Edward Berg, and Robert Berg, all of Galveston.
Rev. W.V Sirman, pastor of the Oak Grove church, assisted by Rev. M.W. Moncrief, officiated at the final rites, and interment was in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Active pallbearers were M.C. Shaffer, J.C. Moncrief, J.M. Teutsch, G.R. Bridges, Harvey D. Shaffer, Vernon C. Shaffer. Honorary pallbearers were W.M. Moncrief, J.W. Shaffer, J.M. Shaffer, and C.L. Shaffer.
