However, Maudie's husband William Burton is buried on the other side of Albert. They were poor and the family could not afford headstones, and used wooden ones instead. The wooden head stones, of course, have not survived.
An interesting note here is that Freida says, at some latter point, someone else was buried in the same grave (that is, on top of Maudie's grave). I don't know why. When I was there, there seemed to be plenty of room in the cemetery?
Another interesting note in the story of Maudie and William (according to Freida) is that Albert did not want Maudie to marry William. Albert thought well of William as a good worker, but didn't seem to think that he would be a good husband for Maudie. I do not know why. Therefore, I find it interesting that, in the burial of Maudie and William, Albert separates the two. Apparently Albert told Maudie that if she married William he would not speak to her again. She married William anyway and, true to his word, to Freida's knowledge, Albert never spoke to Maudie again. Maudie tried to repair the relationship, but was not successful.
