Alvin Adams December 19, 1934 - August 10, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA— PO1 (Ret.) Alvin Adams, 74, of Columbus died Monday, August 10, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel. Interment will follow in Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. PO1 (Ret.) Adams was born December 19, 1934 in Barwick, GA to the late George Washington and Connie Alena Rayfield Adams. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard with over 20 years of service, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. PO1 (Ret.) also retired from civil service at Ft. Benning where he was a training aid specialist. He was a member of the Wilson Williams Masonic Lodge in Phenix City, and was a member of the Phenix City Shrine Club where he formerly participated in the Clown Unit. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. In addition to his parents, PO1 (Ret.) Adams was preceded in death by five brothers. Survivors include his loving wife, two daughters and four sons, one son-in-law and two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
