Anslem Hobbs, who died yesterday at his home on North Illinois Street, was well known to many of the older citizens of Hendricks and Marion Counties. He was born near Plainfield.
Soon after the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted in the Eleventh Indiana Volunteers under Colonel Lew Wallace and served during the war. He reached the rank of Captain before the war closed.
After the war, he started in the manufacturing business in Indianapolis. He was prominent in Grant Army circles and was commander of Major Robert Anderson Post this year. A widow and one son survive him. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at his home.
