Christian came to the United States in 1848 and settled in Indianapolis. He lived with his older brother's family for a time before marrying Mary Magdalena Lang on May 19, 1880. Christian eventually became a director at the Merchant's National Bank. He died suddenly in 1898 leaving behind his wife and their 17 year old son, Carl.
