William Washington Beaty was Born & raised in Laurens Co, Ga.

He is the 2nd GREAT-GRANDFATHER of Stephen C. Beaty. [email protected] ...

He was the son of William Beatty Jr.(@1780-1815) & Mary "Polly" Drew.

He is the Grand-son of: William Beatty "The Ferryman" RS (RS = American Revolutionary War Soldier). (Born: @1756 in Ireland - Died: 1797-1814)

William Beatty "THE FERRYMAN" [RS]: Had a ferry in Dublin, Laurens Co, Ga. that crossed the Oconee river.

William W. Beaty, came as a young man (1830 - 1835)to what was then Thomas County, now Brooks Co, Ga. locating near where Harmony Primitive Baptist Church is now located. His younger sister Olive Beatty had married Louis Ashton Thomas, in 1818, and had already moved to the same area). Here he bought a tract of timber-land.

Clearing a space in the forest, he first erected a double log house, and then began the pioneer labor of redeeming a farm from the wilderness.

There being no railways in the State at that time, he was forced to take all of his farm produce to Tallahassee, FL; for marketing purposes, making the round trip with a four-mule team, & being several days on the road.

Clearing and improving a large farm, he was there a resident until his death, at the age of seventy-nine years.

The maiden name of the 1st wife of William W. Beaty, was Elizabeth Selph, who was born in Telfair Co, Ga. where her parents, Thomas and Mary (Moore) Self, were early pioneers. She died: Sept. 3, 1878.
The year of her death, on her tombstone, is wrong.

On June 4, 1879, after the death of his 1st wife, William W. Beaty married as his 2nd wife, a "widow", by the name of Mrs. Mary Warren. She had a young son (Edward) born @1873 from her 1st marriage. They had a daughter (Hattie), born in 1880, who married, and had children.

Harmony Primitive Baptist Church dates back to 1855. Brooks County was created in 1858.
The church and cemetery is now located 1 mile East of Barwick, in Brooks Co, Ga.

Brooks county was created in 1858 from portions of Lowndes and Thomas counties by an act of the Georgia General Assembly and is named in honor of U.S. Representative Preston Brooks. When Brooks County was created, The "New" Thomas County/Brooks County line, went right through Pavo, Ga. which up till then, had been in Thomas County.

Married 1st Elizabeth SELPH, born 9 Apr 1815, in Telfair Co, Ga. She died, 3 Sep 1878, in Pavo, Brooks Co, Ga. She was the daughter of: Thomas SELPH (1777-1860, son of Ezekiel SELPH, & Mary MOORE (1787-1872).

William; James L.; Berrien; America, who became the wife of Elias Alderman; Jackson; and Elizabeth "Betty".
