Johanna was born to Sgt. Caleb Abell and Margaret Post in 1682 in New London, Connecticut. She married Zachariah Loomis in 1707. They had ten children: Joanna, Margaret, Zechariah, Abigail, Joanna, Ebenezer, Elizabeth, Zerviah, Zechariah, and Ruth. She died of smallpox in 1759 during an outbreak that also killed her son, Ebenezar three days later, and a grandson Samuel.
