On 8-15-1942, his body was re-interred in Restland Cemetery, Section A, Lot 27, due to the creation of Fort Hood Army Reservation.
A second memorial exists for Edward G. Cooper in Gatesville's City Cemetery where his wife is buried.
His inscription is included on a double marker, along with his wife's inscription.
See Find A Grave Memorial #179582777.
The following information was provided by Find A Grave contributor Time Traveler # 46899279:
I contacted some of Edward's Texas relatives years ago and they told me he was buried in Gatesville City Cemetery (they described the tombstone) and that Edward was shot while in an argument with someone over a horse.
In the photo, which a Find A Grave volunteer submitted, the headstone [in City Cemetery] was just as the relatives had described it. So, I believed their information.
Later another family member found the Edward G. Cooper tombstone in Restland Cemetery and cast doubt on the burial location in City Cemetery.

Since it appears that Edward G. Cooper's remains were not moved to Restland until after Edward's wife died, there is conflicting evidence of where Edward G. Cooper was last interred.
Unfortunately there are no other official Coryell County records relating to the removal of Edward G. Cooper's body from Restland Cemetery to the City Cemetery in Gatesville.
Due to this confusion, I believe both Find A Grave memorials for Edward G. Cooper are justified.

Also remembered in the Gatesville City Cemetery.
Please see the photograph, on both memorials for Edward G. Cooper, of a newspaper article confirming his death in a gunfight and his death date as 1886, rather than July 1887, as is shown on his Restland Cemetery tombstone.

Gravesite Details
The death date of July 1887, on Edward G. Cooper's tombstone appears to be in error.
