Duella May Kartchner, was born May 10, 1925 in Kanesville, Weber County, Utah to Charles Henry and Ada Anne Perry Thompson. On October 5, 1949, Duella married George Dee Kartchner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She lived to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary. She was a devout Christian and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a beautiful, loving, compassionate lady who loved everyone she came in contact with. She always encouraged her family and friends to stay close to our Heavenly Father and to see the good in everyone and everything. Her children have said: At Grandma's house there was never a shortage of the spirit, laughter, love, fried eggs, and treats on the table and a box of toys to occupy little hands. She had a tiny frail body yet she was a spiritual giant who influenced all she came in contact with. She kept her family close to her and made all of us feel so loved no matter where we were in the world. She enjoyed sewing and made many colorful quilts. She also enjoyed family gatherings, genealogy, cooking and giving service to others.
Duella and her husband George had 4 children. At the time of her passing she had 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
