C. J. Stowie Dies At Sweet Home
Sweet Home, Aug. 13 (Special) - Charles Jackson Stowie 74-year-old Foster barber, died at his home at 1627 street here early this morning.
Mr. Stowie was born in Fulton county, Georgia March 3, 1877 and had lived on the west coast for many years before moving to Oregon in 1937. He came to Sweet Home four years ago after having lived in Albany and Eugene. He had been the owner of Happy's Barber shop at Foster since coming here.
He served in the Spanish American war, the Boxer Rebellion and was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Stowie was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, DoKKies and of the Sweet Home Kiwanis club.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. May Stowie, Sweet Home; a daughter, Mrs. Fred Hotz, Oakland, Calif.; three sons, L. H. Stowie, Chico, Calif. and Charles and Edward Stowie, Sweet Home; four step daughters, Mrs. Margaret Snyder and Mrs. Jean Dryden of Portland, Mrs. Joyce Roel, Seattle and Mrs. May Demi, Kalamazoo, Mich.; two step-sons Robert Hunter, Portland and William Hunter, Eugene and an adopted son, E. W. Stowie, serving with the air force.
Also surviving are a brother, George Stowie, Chico, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Wheeler, of Washington.
Funeral services are pending at the Huston Funeral home.
