Mary Carolyn Murray (Warren) (1920 - 2009)
Mary Carolyn Warren Murray, age 89, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Sacred Heart at the Emerald Coast.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1920, in Marianna, Fla., the daughter of Marvel Orin Warren Sr. and Sarah Gertrude Simmons Warren. She moved with her family to DeFuniak Springs and graduated from Walton High School with the Class of 1937. She attended Florida State College for Women, graduating in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in commerce. Mary Carolyn worked at Eglin Air Force Base during World War II and later worked in Pensacola, Fla., in social services from 1967 until 1978. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, stitchery, her morning circle and walking around the lake yard. She always had a friendly smile and enjoyed socializing with neighbors and friends, and especially had a soft spot for children. Mary Carolyn was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Marvel O. "Buddy" Warren and Dan Warren. Among survivors are her son, Murray and wife Jackie of DeFuniak Springs; and grandsons, Max Murray of Pleasanton, Calif., and Alex Murray of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Jerry Evans Chapel with the Rev. Rob West officiating. A private family burial will be held in Magnolia Cemetery.
