OBITUARY
Nan Nibley Bullen Johnson Hopkin passed away June 18, 2005 following treatment for leukemia. Nan was born March 18, 1931 a daughter of Annie Nibley and Roy Bullen. She was born in Salt Lake City and attended East High School and the University of Utah. In 1953 she went to Boston University and received a Masters Degree in Music
The next year she married the love of her life, Rulon Edward "Ted" Johnson, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Palo Alto, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico before settling in Wilmington, Delaware where they lived for 35 years; returning to Utah in 1992. Ted died January 23, 2001.
After a yearlong friendship, Nan married John Hopkin April 23, 2005. Their relationship, cut sadly short by her sudden illness, brought her great joy.
Music was an essential part of Nan's life. She taught piano lessons for 22 years and began to learn the viola at the age of 30. She was principal violist in the Newark, Delaware and Dover Delaware Symphony Orchestras and played professionally for 10 years. She was also a member of the Delaware Symphony Repertory Orchestra. Recently, she enjoyed being a member of the American Fork Symphony. When her children were in college, Nan went to the Delaware Community College and received a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
She worked for several years in the Wilmington area as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and then went to DuPont to work as a technician doing chemical and cardiovascular research.
Nan was devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings through the years, but the highlight of those years was her 12 years as Blazer Leader. She was a volunteer at the Orem City Library and served in the Family History Extraction Program.
Nan was an avid reader and loved camping with her family in the Uinta Mountains and the Eastern woods. Each summer they went to a different national park. Gardening brought great joy throughout her life as did genealogical research and sports. Home and family were the focus of her life.
Nan is survived by two brothers, Charles (Jonnie) Bullen, Logan, UT, and David Bullen, San Francisco, CA; her husband, John Hopkin, Orem, UT. Nan and Ted are the parents of six children, Bill (Elizabeth) Johnson, Anacortes, WA, Roy (Milla) Johnson, Parowan, UT, Elizabeth (Brad) Thompson, Hickman, CA, Carolyn (Rob) Ham-blin, Kanab, UT, Barbara (Richard) Hall, Irvine, CA, and Charles (Karen) Johnson, Ft. Mill, SC. There are 25 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2005, 11 a.m. in the Cascade 1st Ward Chapel, 481 East Center, Orem. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Sundberg- Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem and Wednesday from 9:45- 10:45 a.m. at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
