T. E. GOOTEE DIES, FUNERAL HELD AT NEW HAVEN - THOMAS E. GOOTEE, 85, of Louisville, formerly of Nelson County, died at 11:10 p.m., Saturday, October 21, at Louisville. A native of Marion County, Mr. Gootee was a retired oiler on freights on Great Salt Lakes, in Ohio. After retiring in 1950, he and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Coomes, of the New Haven area, returned to Louisville to reside in 1952. The couple had no children. As a young man, Mr. Gootee resided in the New Haven area and for a time was employed at St. Mary's College, at St. Mary. Surviving are his wife; a brother, Roy Gootee, Midwest City, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Leake, Raywick; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Mary Ella Cecil and Mrs. Anna K. Watson, both of New Haven; Joe Paul Cecil, New Haven, and James Leon Cecil, Balltown, are great-nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine Church, New Haven. Rev. Vincent Manger, Louisville, a former assistant at New Haven, was celebrant of the Requiem Mass. Rev. Robert Brown, of near Fort Knox, a cousin of Mrs. Gootee, and Rev. Paul Russell, pastor at St. Catherine, were in the sanctuary. Interment was in Trappist Cemetery at Gethsemani. Serving as pallbearers were Joseph Paul Cecil, Joseph Earl Cecil, James Philip Cecil, Robert Wilson, Arthur Wilson and Bernard A. Leake. The body was at Greenwell Funeral Home, at New Haven.
