Charles Raymond Thiessen, 73, Hillsboro, died Nov. 23, 2009, at Tuality Hospital, Hillsboro.

Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Charles Thiessen was born March 10, 1936, in Custer County, Okla., the son of Peter L. and Agnes L. Thiessen.

He moved from Oklahoma to Dilley in 1954.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

He drove trucks for many years and in 1979 was first runner-up for Oregon Truck Driver of the Year.

In 1964, he married Hope Kent. They later divorced.

On June 10, 1974, he married Connie Wilkerson, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was a member of many service organizations, including the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. He was also active with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed working the Hillsboro air shows and held a private pilot's license.

He also enjoyed hunting, camping and tending his flower garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Cliff Shular; sister, Georgeina Renison; and stepson, Terry Wilkerson.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter, Kim Van Dyke; son, Charles "Randy" Thiessen; brother, Darrell; stepsister, Jan Schott; stepbrother, Richard Shular; 11 grandchildren; two great grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
