Vivian Aker Wearne
1922-2009
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church for Vivian Aker Wearne. Vivian died on December 1 at the age of 87 of Parkinson's disease. Vivian was born on June 30, 1922 in Fargo, North Dakota to Jens and Emma (Knutson) Aker. She married Robert Wearne in Fargo on Sept. 7, 1944. They were married for 61 years. Robert passed away in December 2005. Vivian is survived by her son Michael of Seattle, daughter Nancy of Jefferson, son Steve of Beaverton, son Brian of Orlando and daughter Dorothy of Cottage Grove; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Vivian graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1940 and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
She worked at C&P Bell Telephone and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. before retiring to Eugene in 1978. She was involved with the Song Spinners, Eugene Garden Club, Bach Festival, Older Women's League, Mount Pisgah Arboretum, Eugene Human Rights Commission and Alzheimer's Association.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the National Parkinson Foundation or Central Presbyterian Church.
