William Harrison Spurgeon was the son of Joseph and Kisiah England Spurgeon. William Harrison was the husband of Sarah Lauena Denney (Louie).

When William was two years old his father died. His mother later married Jonathan Winslow widower of Elizabeth Calloway. Elizabeth was the daughter of Micajah Calloway. William met and fell in love with Sarah Lauena (Louie) Denney the daughter of Thomas and Ann Mariah Hattabaugh Denney. On October 15, 1885 they were united in marriage in Salem, Indiana. They were blessed with eight children.

William and wife Louie moved with their children from Washington County to the DeMotte area about 1917. Their farm in Washington County was located at the bottom of "Lick Skillet Hill". All of their children were born in their Washington County, Indiana home. In Monroe Township of Washington County, the Delany Creek Presbyterian Church, was built on land donated by William. It occupies about one acre of what was William's property. Their new residence was established on a farm south of DeMotte, Indiana and made it their home for the remainder of their years. The family attended Church faithfully at the Methodist Church in DeMotte. His occupation was farming where he and Louie worked together making it a loving home for their family. He also drove a horse drawn school bus and for years took the children in his neighborhood to and from school. Louie was employed as was one of the first telephone switchboard operators.

Their child Nellie B. died in infancy.

William's last name was spelled and recorded as Spurgin until court documents in the 1870's when the name Spurgin became spelled "Spurgeon". It changed about the same time as the famous preacher "Charles Haddon Spurgeon" of County Essex, England became popular.
