Rebecca C. Davis was born in 1812 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, the daughter of Ephraim Davis (c1759-1844) and Elizabeth Holman (c1770-1845). On December 9, 1831, nineteen year old Rebecca Davis married twenty-seven year old Dr. Jesse James Dancy in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He was born on June 4, 1804 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, the son of Edward J. Dancy (1769-1859) and his second wife Amelia Vannoy (1781-1858).

Rebecca Davis and Dr. Jesse James Dancy had ten children: Irene (1832), William Henderson (1834), John Calhoun (1836), Elizabeth Jane (1839), Lucinda Ann (1844), Ephraim (c1844), George (c1844), Nickatira (c1845), James W. (1849) and Catherine S. (1851).

The Dancy family resided in Wilkes County, North Carolina but were in Tazewell County, Virginia at the time of the 1840 U.S. census. By 1845 the family was in Clay County, Kentucky and were there for the 1850 U.S. census. In the 1870 U.S. census the Dancy family was in Barry County, Missouri. One month after the census, on September 6, 1870 Rebecca's husband, Dr. Jesse James Dancy, died at age sixty-six in Corsicana, Barry County, Missouri.

In the 1880 U.S. census Rebecca is residing in the home of her daughter Irene in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. Rebecca then went to live with her son William H. Dancy in Republic county, Kansas, where she died on April 1, 1883 at the age of seventy-one.

Rebecca C. (Davis) Dancy's son, William H. Dancy (1834-1913), and his wife, Frances Sybil Servis (1834-1897), were buried next to Rebecca in Prairie Rose cemetery.
