Janie E. Ashe Byers, 90, a native of Tellico Plains and a resident of Benton for the past 45 years, went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. She was a member of Benton Church of God, and was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey F. Byers; five grandchildren; her parents, James Henry Harris and Laura Ellen Newman Harris; five brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Ashe and wife, Peggy of Chatsworth, Ga., Dennis Ashe and wife, Geneva, of Old Fort, and Daryl Byers and wife, Susan, of New Mexico; eight daughters, Betty Jean Cross and husband, Ray, of Benton, Kathleen Blankenship and husband, Charles, of Riceville, Peggy Miller and husband, Jim, of Niota, Edith Byers of Cleveland, Elizabeth Mooney and husband, Ralph, of Dalton, Ga., Jewell Rayburn of Benton, Alene Young and husband, Charlie, of Tellico Plains and Sheila Byers of Benton; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home of Benton with the Rev. Jerry Herron and the Rev. David Ashe officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Old Ocoee Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
