Cora E. Phillips was born in Plymouth, Michigan. Her mother was Alice Oretta Cohoon, and her father was Stephen Littler, who had been a Union soldier in the Civil War and was from Ohio. In 1890 she began working for an attorney as a secretary. He moved to Arkansas and offered her a job to go to Arkansas. She lived in a boarding house for a few years. She then opened the Littler Tot Toggery shop for ladies hats and clothing in Green Forest. She hired Miss Alice Phillips to help in the shop and each day her brother would come to escort her home. That is how she met Henderson Phillips. She lived the remainder of her life in Green Forest.
