Kathryn Frances Eckroat, 95, of Piqua, Kansas, passed away at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas.

She was born December 30, 1913, at Harrah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Mike A. and Frances Ann (Pauli) Zawisza.

At the age of five, the family moved to Choctaw, Oklahoma, which is where she graduated from high school.

On November 28, 1934, Kathryn married Edward C. Eckroat at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2003.

Since 1943, they have made their home on a farm at Piqua, Kansas.

Kathryn was a lifelong homemaker, farmer, gardner, and avid seamstress.

She was very active in her community where she was a member of the Neosho Valley FCE, and held the post of the Democratic Party Precinct person in Neosho Falls Township for many years. Kathryn was a lifetime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and St. Martin's Altar Society in Piqua.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Loretta Andres of Iola, KS; one son, Edward L. Eckroat & wife, Janice, of Piqua, KS; one sister, Evelyn Eckroat & husband, Ted of Midwest City, OK; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-Grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond A. "Butch" Eckroat; two brothers, Andrew and Leo Zawisza; and a nephew, Lee Zawisza.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, KS. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery, Piqua, KS.

Memorials are suggested to St. Martin's Oratory Fund, or St. Martin's Cemetery Fund.

Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, of Iola, KS, which is in charge of arrangements.
