Robert Joseph Yanish, 82, of Bagley, died Thursday, November 5, 1998, at the Greensview Health Care Center in Bagley.
He was born February 8, 1916, in Watkins, Minnesota, the son of Michael and Eva (Jones) Yanish. He moved with his family to Oriska, North Dakota, as a boy. He graduated from high school in Oriska. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1940-1945. Commissioned as a Warrant Officer in 1942, he set up gunnery ranges an air bases in Boise, Idaho, and Casper, Wyoming. He was discharged in 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Bob married Alice Stensgaard in Boise, Idaho, in 1942 and they later lived in Buffalo, North Dakota, where he had a farm implement dealership. They moved to Climax, Colorado, where he was a welder for Climax Molybdenum Colorado. In 1956, the family moved to Bear Creek Farm in rural Shevlin. Bob served on the Bear Creek Town Board. He retired in 1983 and they moved to rural Bagley. He entered Greensview Health Care Center in 1995. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Irvin Blix Post # 16 of the American Legion in Bagley. He loved to fish. He was a creative inventor and an expert welder. He valued being a good neighbor.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Bagley; son, Robert (Kathy) Yanish of Mahnomen, Minnesota; two daughters, Joan Brown of Moorhead, Minnesota and Linda (David) Maschwitz of St. Paul' six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Schneckloth of Buffalo, North Dakota, and Anne Baker Stenseng of Bagley.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were Monday, November 9, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bagley with Rev. Gary LaMoine officiating. Interment was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Bagley with arrangements by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley.
