Wanda L. Chapman, 86, a former resident of rural Churubusco and more recently a resident of Snow Lake near Fremont, died Wednesday morning, March 18, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Chapman was born in Smith Township on May 17, 1922, a daughter of Orval and Aria Etta (Gaff) Ramsey, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1940. She spent all of her life in the Churubusco area until four years ago when she became a year-round resident at her lake home in Steuben County.

A former employee of General Electric in Fort Wayne, she worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Believer's Bible Fellowship in Churubusco, the ELEX Club, and the G. E. Quintis Club. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife, and in her leisure time enjoyed flowers, gardening, and her life at the lake.

On August 30, 1941 she was married in Whitley County to Harry L. Chapman. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1995.

The surviving relatives include her daughters Colleen (Jim Williams) McDougall of Fremont and Gloria "Susie" Fox of Greenfield; a sister Hulda Marie Hursh Thornburg of Syracuse; four grandchildren Kevin (Beth) McDougall, Kelly McDougall, Jeff Lothamer, and Chad (Zhou Xue) Lothamer; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by a sister Edna Mae Shroyer on November 20, 1958; and by a brother Orval A. Ramsey on June 29, 1994.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, March 23, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
