Helen H. Kenworthy, 94, of Connersville, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Heritage House in Connersville, where she had been a resident the past six years.

She was born Dec. 7, 1915, in Connersville, one of three children of Harley and Clara (Ackman) Cox.

She was a member of the first senior class to graduate from Harrisburg High School in 1933. During high school, she played on the girls varsity basketball team.

On Oct. 23, 1936, she was married to Howard E. Kenworthy of Connersville. Howard preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1961.

Helen had worked at Clark's Flower Shop and J.C. Penney as a clerk and for 22 years at Fayette Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide in the obstetrics ward. She retired in 1980.

Helen was a 50-year-plus member of Alquina United Methodist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school for many years, served as recording steward of the Everton Methodist Charge and a was member of United Methodist Women's Group.

Other activities in the Alquina community consisted of being past secretary of the Alquina PTO, working on the building committee for the 1956 Alquina High School, helping on election days and being a member of the Jennings Township Home Economics Club. An avid basketball fan, she supported the Alquina Blue Arrows and in later years enjoyed watching Purdue University, Indiana University and the Indiana Pacers.

Survivors include two sons, Larry A. Kenworthy and wife, Mary, of Greenwood and J. Andrew Kenworthy and wife, Ruthann, of Connersville; four grandchildren, Steven Kenworthy of Franklin, Cynthia Cook of Martinsville, Todd Kenworthy and wife, Stephanie, of Greenwood and Jamie Kenworthy of Indianapolis; two stepgranddaughters; Beth Bennett of Akron, Ohio, and Rebecca LeForce of Carlisle, Ohio; five great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Howard E. Kenworthy, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nina Cornett; a brother, Ernest Cox; a nephew, Clark Cornett; and a grandson, Larry Lee Kenworthy.

The Revs. Chris Millay and Mark Powell will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Moster-Robbins Funeral Home, 1704 Grand Ave., Connersville, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery in Connersville.
