Funeral services for Nellie D. Austin of Winona will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, at Oliver Chapel, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Rev. T. R. Darsey will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 17, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Austin died of heart failure on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. She was 83 years old.
Mrs. Austin was the daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle Gordon Downs and the widow of the late Boyce Edwin Austin. She was a former employee of McGregor Manufacturing in Winona and a member of First Baptist Church in Winona. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Malcolm, W. H., Jimmy, Billy, and Bluford Downs; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Ballard Austin.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Patton and her husband, Bill, of Brandon; her three sons, Jimmy Austin and his wife, Susie, of McCarley, Jackie Austin and his wife, Beth, of Winona, and Mickey Austin and his wife, Anne, of Winona; three sisters, Dot Cox of Greenwood, Sue Anthony of Starkville, and Pearlie Hood of Grenada; two brothers, Sonny Downs of Vaiden and Johnny Downs of Houston; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Austin, Ryan Austin, Mark Austin, Danny Morgan, Kelly Welch, and David Costilow.
