Former resident dies in S.L.C.
Relatives were notified of the death April 30 of Silas Decatur Kartchner, 68, in Salt Lake City. Mr. Kartchner was a former resident of Blanding and was the husband of Beth Hurst Kartchner. His sister, Leila Palmer and his brother, John Harvey Kartchner, live in Blanding.
Funeral services were held on May 3 in the East Stratford Ward Chapel with Bishop Harold C. Davis officiating, with interment in the Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.
Going to Salt Lake City for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burtenshaw, Leila Adair, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Black, Eva Lynn Perkins, Ardell Black, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Kartchner, George Hurst, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hurst, Mr. and Mrs. Riley Hurst, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin F. Lyman and Francis M. Lyman, all of Blanding.
Silas D. Kartchner was born Sept. 1, 1899 in Mexico to John and Nancy Mann Kartchner. He married Elizabeth Hurst in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 2, 1920 and they lived in Blanding for many years where he was in the building and contracting business. He moved to Salt Lake City and at the time of his death was retired. He had been building contractor and security officer at Auerbach's.
He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter: John H, Midvale; Hal and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Bengtzen, both of Salt Lake City. His daughter was in Europe at the time of being notified of his death. The Bengtzens had gone there to meet their son, Cary, and tour Europe but immediately flew home. In addition he is survived by brothers William, Frank, Salt Lake City; Howard, Farmington, N. M. ; Harvey J. of Blanding; sisters Mrs. John (Pearl) Robertson of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Byron Adair of Blanding and Mrs. Charles (Lydia) Carroll of Crescent, Utah. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

He was married to Elizabeth Hurst in the LDS Temple 2 Dec 1920.
